As we were heading south on I-5 today, up ahead on the right shoulder there was a car with an open-bed cargo trailer pulled over, a young lady standing by the side of a car, and her male companion running back for something. All I could see on the side of the road was what looked like a piece of a blown tire. As we got closer, we could see that it was not in fact a piece of a blown tire, but a kitten! A tiny black and white kitten, standing on the white line between the shoulder and the rightmost lane. A TINY BABY BLACK AND WHITE KITTEN!!! WALKING ON THE FREEWAY!!! Holy bejeezus, what could be worse, really?

I saw a dog last week at night on the inside lanes of the freeway with cars swerving to avoid it. It gave me nightmares. 🙁
