New Boat Quilt!

We recently commissioned a quilt for the boat from our very talented friend Laura Preston. Her company is Vacilando Quilting Co., and you should follow her because her work is fantastic.

Our quilt arrived the other day and we're super excited to take it to the boat, but for now, here are a couple of photos (courtesy of Vacilando Quilting Co.) that Laura sent before shipping it to us:

You can't really get a good look at the reverse side detail in the overall shot above (it's fabulous, and I love that little white rectangle), but we went with a soft patterned gray fabric that looks like this:

Also, the out-of-the-box experience was really sweet, complete with a hand-written note on the back of a Glacier Bay National Park, Alaska postcard. Awwwwww.

Laura also makes a super versatile tote called the Subway Tote. We ordered two of them for the boat with the idea that they would make great multi-purpose bags for shlepping stuff to and from the boat, going grocery shopping, etc. When they arrived, we had just returned from the market and so we decided to see how much the Subway Tote would hold in the way of groceries. Not only did it hold our entire bag of groceries, but we tried a wine bottle in one of the small outside pockets (there are four of these pockets), and it fit perfectly! Glad we got two of these!

The Subway Totes come in nutmeg, natural, and navy ($45/ea). Ours are both navy, and there are better photos of the bags on her site, of course.

Laura was so much fun to collaborate and work with on this project! I think we might need a new quilt for home!

Airstream Style: From Sea to Shining Sea

Bedding Changeup

I changed the bedding on the Airstream bed. Again. The yellow/black/gray/white set we had was great but I have been wanting a change. I had started bringing our quilt from home because it was a warmer color, and not quite as "springy" in its color palette. It's a shiny champagne silky thing, and looked great back there. Not as graphic, but "accentuatable" with cool pillows. And we all know how much I love accentuating with pillows.

Anyway, bringing our bedding from home and toting it back and forth was not ideal, and I recently found this silvery lotus quilt that I really like.

I added a Marimekko Joonas pillow, and a black/white embroidered one from Blissliving (and threw the Ikea striped throw on there to see how that worked). I'm still missing one pillow that hasn't arrived yet: this orange lotus embroidered silk pillow that I ordered from the KainKain Etsy store.

Should really be a nice pop of color back there.

Airstream Style: Deluxe vs. Budget (Black, White, Yellow)

I've been eyeing this Marimekko duvet cover (left) and thinking that it would be fun to see if I could pair it with some yellow and white striped sheets. It's on my "want" list, but it's a bit more expensive than the comforter I've got in the Airstream now.

Then, when I was an Ikea last week picking up a gift, I saw this duvet cover (right) that looked similar to the Marimekko and I thought I'd do a little online challenge for myself. (Click image to enlarge)

On the left:

(For the difference in the cost of the two sheet sets, I'd still go with the West Elm striped sheets for $80, because I couldn't find anything comparable in a striped sheet that fit the look I was going for.)
