Okay then! I’ll start using ‘pilot the boat’ — ‘drive’ does sound a little wrong, doesn’t it? I do think “tow the trailer” includes both driving the pickup AND pulling the trailer though, and is more accurate when I’m making fun of women who let the man do all the work. 🙂
Interestingly, I am also a pilot, but I ‘fly’ the airplane. What’s up with that?

That’s because it is a power boat. I would paddle a canoe, row a boat, or sail a boat. But I would ‘drive’ a team of horses, a car, and my Airstream’s pickup. Of course I pull the trailer.
