Some are actual controversies—Saltspring Island vs. Salt Spring Island, for instance. Most are errors introduced when private companies convert government raster charts to proprietary vector charts. Apparently Navionics contracted the work out to a Russian company whose employees seemingly have a limited command of the English language. It gets even more convoluted when we try to spell native names in English…
