Mother’s Day Brunch and Cathlamet, WA

We had a really nice Mother's Day yesterday here at Skamokawa with my mom. In the morning I made us all Crab Benedict (modified: bed of spinach, fresh Dungeness crab, poached eggs, and a light hollandaise, but I forgot the chives dangit). We had mimosas and some sliced apple and it was all pretty great.

We walked on the beach a bit, and went into town (Cathlamet) for a few things in the afternoon. There's a little market on Main Street that's got a pretty good selection of stuff (especially for a small town). We walked in the door and my mom immediately bent over and wheeled out one of these teeny tiny carts, saying  "I just need a couple things…."

Right behind the market  there's a cute little Pioneer church up on the hill there, built in 1895:

More history of the little town of Cathlamet can be found here and the past post we did about the town of Cathlamet is here.

Oh, and here's today's office view  (taken out the back window of the Airstream, before the crazy wind and rain started a bit ago):

That's the Atlantic Burnet, coming to Longview, WA from Russia to pick up some logs.

Here's what our view looks like now:

Last night's dinner: barbecued fresh sea bass, and salad. Simple but yum.

Oh lordy! The scrumptious pic of the Crab Benedict made me want some for dinner too. Ok, tell me what’s a light hollandaise? Please, please, lie to me and tell me you do use butter! 🙂 Sometime last year during your coastal travels, you made a delicious salmon en papillote. I have made it at home and it is delicious and so simple! Thanks! Keep those recipes/pics coming too! Between you, Leigh and Monica, my Paprika app is getting full. Is that possible?! 🙂

  2. Hahaha yeah, it wasn’t THAT light. I use real butter, a few egg yolks, and a maybe more lemon juice because we all like it lemony…a pinch of cayenne and salt. (Sometimes we cheat and get the little tub of already made hollandaise from Trader Joe’s, too. It’s surprisingly good.)

I’m SO glad you liked that fish en papillote! I use all kinds of other fish (halibut and other white fish is GREAT with lemon and olive oil and garlic and veggies). So easy and yum.

I use Yummy Soup (I dig the name) but I’ve been thinking of trying Paprika. 🙂

  3. You poach eggs the right way! That looks so yummy!
