Saying goodbye

We pulled the old trailer up next to the new one for the big transfer of goods. In the space of twenty minutes or so, the objects of our entire mobile lives would be transported from the old vessel to the new. Our camping souls would be re-born in a new body – the last vestiges of our former roaming to be towed away into the sunset…

Wait, will we be sad? Will we miss the old trailer – the one into which we poured five years and countless hours of care and upgrading and improving and modifying and unabashed object love? Will we feel the pang of loss as the tow tractor hooks up and drives away with our little home? Will we think back wistfully about the thousands of miles, the countless scenic vistas, the hundred-and-fifty plus nights we spent in our tiny little pod of happiness?  Will our hearts skip a beat or two as…

Nope.

The stuff that was crammed and wedged into the old trailer breathed a sigh of relief as it easily and conveniently slid into right-sized berths in the new unit. Our aesthetic satisfaction rose a level each time we moved a container across the threshold from old to new. My mind started racing with the possibilities presented by this new, blank canvas for upgrades, customization, and trick mods. We could add solar, low-power flat screens, computers, mobile wifi, video game consoles…

What old trailer?
