Pretty great, isn't it?
We cooked up some little burgers last night for dinner (grass-fed beef mixed with garlic, pepper, and a little chorizo, smoked for an hour and a half on the Traeger before finishing, topped with gorgonzola and bacon, served with a side of roasted cauliflower and an arugula salad…yum!) and sipped a sazerac while watching this gorgeous sunset from our campsite at Sea Perch RV Resort, just south of Yachats, Oregon.

We stopped in Florence on our way north to visit with my great aunt Zelma (101 years old) and her daughter, Dolores (my second cousin). It was a short but very nice visit. At 101 years of age, I really need to get in all the visits I can with Zelma!
Now we're making stuffed (bacon-wrapped) jalapenos on the Traeger, and crab enchiladas for dinner, listening to the sound of the waves, and about to be sipping a martini. We're parked oceanside at one of our favorite spots on the Oregon Coast: Sea Perch RV Resort, just south of Yachats. The last time we were here was last May, doing a story with Coastal Living magazine (which I think is scheduled to publish in April 2014!)
]]>This place is gorgeous and our weather for the several days we've been here has been spectacular.
There are 24 RV sites and 4 ocean villas. Six of the RV sites are waterfront, and all sites are large, full hookup sites with a picnic table (and nothing's too far from the water). There's no cell service, but the campground's Wi-Fi is strong and stable. There's a gorgeous clubhouse with a nice gym, hangout areas, a fireplace, a laundry room, pool table, foosball and an upstairs lounge with an ocean view. There's a community fire pit, but no individual fire rings at campsites. The town of Yachats (just a bit north of here) has a market and a few restaurants and coffee shops.
We'll definitely be coming back here. (Thanks, Barbara!)
]]>This is not The Great Spruce, just a fairly large tree:
This photo looks like a get well card, don't you think?
Dappled light on the trail:
A hairy fern ball:
A less hairy fern ball:
The leaves on these plants are HUGE. They look like plants from a movie about dinosaurs:
The Great Spruce is 40 ft in diameter and over 185 ft tall.
The trail parallels Cape Creek:
Nice hike through old growth forest, no wind (unlike the 30kts at the beach yesterday!), two miles(ish) round trip.
The light was nice and silvery on our Airstream when we got back to our campsite:
And then, dinner of fresh Oregon Dungeness crab and champagne:
]]>We went for a hike on the beach yesterday afternoon and it was SO WINDY! We went out to explore some of the closeby tidepool goodness and we saw a few anemones and one starfish, but after a bit it was just a bit too intense out there so we came back in and instead went for a hike in an old growth forest up the road. (Photos coming up later of that. Lots of green!) In the meantime, here's a bunch of sand:

]]>We are now at Sea Perch RV Resort just South of the town of Yachats. We've got a waterfront spot right and it's gorgeous here. No cell service at all, but nice and fast wi-fi.
